Position Summary

The Kitchen Systems/Fire Extinguisher Superintendent at Marmic Fire and Safety is required to provide technical expertise, strong customer service, and commitment to maintaining an exceptional service quality to our customer base. The superintendent is responsible for overseeing the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of kitchen fire suppression systems and fire extinguishers. Ensuring that the KSFE technicians remain trained to the highest of standards in local and state required qualifications. The leadership of small groups of KSFE technicians, ensuring projects are completed on time and to a high standard, whilst maintaining compliance with industry standards. The Superintendent will act as a key liaison between technicians and the leadership team, ensuring the successful delivery and handling various tasks from system setup to routine inspections and maintenance. 

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversight and Leadership

    • Supervise and coordinate the installation of kitchen fire suppression systems and fire extinguishers according to manufacturer specifications, local safety regulations, and NFPA codes.

    • Ensure projects are executed according to specifications, on schedule, while meeting or exceeding client expectations.

    • Providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high-quality workmanship and professional development.

  • Compliance and Quality Assurance

    • Conduct regular inspections and audits to verify the quality and safety of installations and maintenance activities.

    • Ensure all work complies with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards, including NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) guidelines and local building codes. 

  • Inspection and Maintenance:

    • Perform annual/monthly inspections of fire extinguishers in accordance with NFPA Portable Extinguishers - NFPA 10, Kitchen Suppression - NFPA 17a & 96 and UL 300

    • Inspect, maintain, understand and apply NFPA codes, manufacturer specifications, and local fire codes for restaurant fire suppression systems and fire extinguishers.

    • Perform routine maintenance and service tasks, ensuring all equipment is operational and compliant with safety codes.

  • Safety:

    • Promote and enforce health and safety standards on job sites, ensuring that all team members adhere to safety protocols and practices.

    • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a clean and safe work environment.

    • Follow company policies and industry regulations to ensure compliance with fire safety standards.

  • Repair and Troubleshooting:

    • Diagnose and perform on-site emergency troubleshooting of fire suppression systems.

    • Address any malfunctions, deficiencies, or non-conformance issues identified during inspections.

  • Documentation and Reporting:

    • Prepare accurate and timely inspection reports, including obtaining customer signatures and ensuring detailed records are submitted daily.

    • Maintain comprehensive documentation of inspections, maintenance, and repairs.

  • Learning and Development:

    • Participate in ongoing training to stay current with industry standards, technologies, and best practices in kitchen fire suppression systems and fire extinguisher maintenance.

    • Continuously improve technical skills and knowledge related to fire protection systems.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of fire suppression systems and fire extinguishers.

  • Ability to use hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and basic repair tools.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methods.

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

  • Must pass pre-employment background checks and drug screenings, with ongoing compliance throughout employment.

  • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting and moving equipment over 50 lbs, and working in challenging positions such as climbing ladders and working in confined spaces.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours and be on-call as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Fire Protection Technology, Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and management of suppression systems, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role

  • Certification or coursework in fire suppression systems or fire protection.

  • Previous experience working with kitchen fire suppression systems and fire extinguishers.

  • Familiarity with NFPA codes, including NFPA 10, NFPA 96, NFPA 17a, UL 300, and local fire codes.

  • Experience with brands such as ANSUL, Pyro Chem, RangeGuard, Kidde, and Piranha.
